What is TENS?
TENS stands for Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation: gentle electrical currents are sent to your nerves via skin electrodes.
This stimulation works in two ways. It blocks pain signals on their way to the brain (the 'gate control' theory) and stimulates the production of endorphins - your body's own painkillers.

Place the electrodes
Stick the four electrodes in the right place on your lower back, following the instructions.
Build up the intensity
Turn on the device and gradually increase the intensity to a pleasant tingling feeling.
Boost during contractions
Press the boost button as soon as a contraction starts, and turn it back down afterwards.
Stay in control yourself
You determine the intensity - operable with one hand, even during contractions.
